planext is a tool that can help you plan a new, future-oriented career path based on your current skills. This tool will help you find jobs that require skill sets similar to those in your current position, sometimes in completely different industries than the one you’re in right now. By connecting these jobs, you can quickly put together a data-backed career plan you might not have thought of on your own.

planext is great for anyone looking to change careers or explore new jobs that have positive outlook potential. Many jobs have overlapping skills, and our platform can help you identify roles you may have never considered before. planext will also recommend curated training opportunities and employment options at each step along your career path.

Pathways and Occupations

Pathways and Occupations

planext uses O*NET[1]’s job naming convention for occupation names. O*NET uses a list of over 900 standardized occupation names that come from the Standard Occupation Classification System (SOCS). These naming conventions might not exactly fit what you call your own job, so if you can’t find what you’re looking for, try changing up the wording or looking through available occupations - your job is probably in there!

When building your career path, a percentage is displayed that represents the skill overlap between two occupations. The higher the percentage, the closer the match to the previous occupation. Match scores are calculated using data on transferrable skills, abilities, knowledge, and more. If we told you any more, we’d have to kill you.

The percentages associated with risk of automation of an occupation are a prediction of the likelihood of a job being automated in 15+ years based on its skills. This data is gathered from Faethm.ai[2].

Training

Training

In our first release, we’ve limited our training options to one example in the Greater Toronto Area. Though there may not be education options available in your region, these will give you an idea of the type of education people in that job usually have. We’re planning to expand our reach in the near future, so check back for region-specific training options and subscribe to our emails for updates!

Jobs

Jobs

Our first release is being piloted in the Greater Toronto Area, partnering with Ziprecruiter to display all available jobs in the GTA. It’s possible there currently aren’t any postings for the job you’re looking at, or that there just aren’t any within the GTA. We’re planning to expand our reach in the near future, so check back for region-specific employment options and subscribe to our emails for updates!
